A little about me

Step 1: Acknowledging that I am a writer

On jarama! My name is Kadjatu (Kad-jah-two) I also go by Kadja. I lived in Guinea until shortly after my sixth birthday at which point my family and I immigrated to NYC. I’m now in my early 20's, post-grad, and feeling all the growing pains transitioning into adulthood. God bless these 20 somethings or whatever SZA said.

For a long time I looked upon others to define myself but now I’m asking myself:

“What do I want?” “How do I want to live my life?” and “What do I believe in?”

Even though English isn’t my first language it has allowed me to capture the nuances of my experiences and emotions. In trying to keep peace within my relationships I stifled my voice in the process.

I have always loved writing, it’s something I find solace and clarity in as I rediscover myself while transforming chaos into poetry and prose.

In addition to my literary pursuits, I am on a journey to become a birth worker and advocate. Recently completing my doula training at SMC Doula, I am dedicated to supporting individuals during the transformative journey of childbirth, providing compassionate care and advocacy every step of the way. I strive to make a tangible difference in the lives of those I encounter.

I want to keep this space as real and true to me as possible because that’s the kind of community I want to be in.

I enjoy writing poems and personal essays ranging from love, relationships, spirituality, growing up as an immigrant in America and all that comes with getting older and finding who I am and what I stand for. I hope you stick around because I have some things to say!
